Re:Merge is the two hundred and twenty-seventh Extra Ops and the fifth Recapture introduced in Metal Slug Attack.
Story[]
Marco and Tarma are discussing about a new bacteria that the Martians are using on Earth. Fio chimes in and tells them that its name is Metal Fusioner No.223, and that it appears to be controlled by something else. She also tells them that it is weak to physical attacks. Marco dismisses her, telling her not to exhaust herself while on standby.
Tarma and Marco decide to send the AI division to tackle the enemy, hoping to get one new power from the test; Tarma states that they could get two, if they can use the bacteria.
Elsewhere, Alice begins starting up the new slug, while Heart asks why Alice is with her on the tank. Tarma tells her that they could get along with each other, while Marco asks Alice if she is sure of this. Alice states that she will follow Heart's instructions, while Tarma also explains to Heart that Alice has more battle experience.
Marco then authorizes the operation against the Metal Fusioner, ordering his men to collect samples that will fall off as the AI fight the massive machine. As Alice and Heart move in, they argue over the best way to attack the enemy.
In the first battlefield, Clone Abby confronts the two AI over their poor hit rate and gives them some of the armor as a joke of sorts. Clone Betty is confused as to what her sister is doing, while Heart steers her Slug out of the area. Alice wants to attack as they are in range, while the two clones simply look on.
On the second battlefield, the Gemini Twins stumble onto the battlefield, Black looking for something to eat. The pair quickly run into Fio, who offers them some sandwiches. They quickly accept and enjoy the food, before Eri scolds Fio for not focusing on the mission.
At the final battlefield, the AI find Pauline clearing away at the small shards left by the Metal Fusioner. Alice comments on how precise Pauline's mech is, having believed that operating it would take a lot of effort. Pauline then asks about how the AI can change forms to suit their creators, which causes Heart's mind to blank out as she thinks about Tarma, much to Alice's worry.
Alice and Heart learn about the concept of quarreling as they fight over the best decision, but ultimately defeat the Metal Fusioner. The operation is ultimately deemed a failure however, as the research team is unable to utilise the samples effectively. Marco then learns from Tarma that Alice and Heart are about to train with Fio, upon which he remembers that there is a budget meeting coming up soon. He arrives just as they begin the session, much to his horror.
