Runaway Bacteria is the two hundred and eighty-third Extra Ops and the sixty-sixth Marathon Extra Ops introduced in Metal Slug Attack.

Story

At an Amadeus facility, a scientist named Melk is busy eating ice cream with her slime cap, Ratty, who she developed. The two eat an absurd amount of ice cream when Type:Dragonfly comes in and tells them that eating plenty of sugar isn't healthy for them and questions their "research". Alma then bursts into the room and informs them that they're under attack by the Martians. Estimating that there's a high chance for the Professor to be present, she rushes off to the battlefield. Alma asks Dragonfly to stop Melk.

Arriving at the battiefield, Melk and Ratty begin fighting the Martian weapons. She ignores Dragonfly's request to leave; failing to notice the Mars Fenrir behind her, Melk is launched into the air and injured. Ratty becomes enraged and turns dark, much to Dragonfly's surprise as she realizes that it must be Ratty's true form.

The enraged Ratty crushes the Martian weapons, much to Dragonfly's surprise as she witnesses its power. She is unsure as to whether to report it to upper management at first, but knowing that they would be separated if she did, decides to keep the information stored in her database. As Ratty crushes the last weapon, it returns to Melk. Dragonfly tells Ratty that she's probably unconscious and offers to take her to the infirmary, who accepts.

A few hours later, Melk regains consciousness and is greeted by Alma and Ratty, both of whom are relieved to see her well. Melk then wonders what happened to the Martians, of which Dragonfly tells her that she worked with Ratty to destroy them. Ratty is confused before Dragonfly puts her finger on her lips to indicate silence, doing so convincingly that both Alma and Melk look on with curiosity.

In space, the Professor speaks with Marty over Ratty's origins. Marty is sure that it must be an invader, but the Professor decides to check the data to double-check it. He warns Marty to stay away from strange invaders if it is one, but promises to make a powerful weapon to fight it. Marty, noticing his evil grin, is unconvinced and refuses to comply.
